- Establishing continuous volumes of used beverage cartons to recyclers:? requires an appropriate collection programme in place as well as consumer awareness and willingness; helping consumers understand where and how to recycle right – separating waste at their households.

In Australia, there is a growing reliance on local paper mills for all packaging materials due to the China ban and stricter regulations by other export markets. Paper mill groups now have far more leverage and could better dictate what type of quality they would accept. This was not an issue in the past due to the demand from export channels, where used beverage cartons was sent in “mixed paper” bales.
In order to be part of the solution, our aim is to set up a local recycling solution for beverage cartons in Australia, to help reduce dependency on waste export channels, limit the number of cartons going to landfill and ensure beverage cartons continue to deliver value after use.

If you are in Auckland, you can put your cartons into your kerb-side recycling bin. This is then mixed with other paper and they are recycled together. In addition, all Tetra Pak cartons in the Fonterra Milk for Schools program are collected and sent for recycling to our dedicated carton recycling partners in the region where they are turned into corrugated cardboard and roof tiles.?
